RIAA's First Nations Peoples' Rights Working Group is an initiative to support members in their stewardship responsibilities respecting First Nations peoples' rights in their business operations and their portfolio of companies.

The First Nations Peoples' Rights Working Group has a three-fold purpose: address and advance the rights of First Nations peoples and others subjected to systemic racism; elevate First Nations peoples' participation and voices in investment and the Responsible Investment community; and increase access, scale and impact of First Nations peoples' related investment activity.

On Saturday 14 October 2023, Australia voted in referendum to amend the Constitution to recognise the First Peoples of Australia by establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice. The results revealed a national No vote with the majority of states voting against the proposed change. Join our final First Nations Peoples' Rights Working Group meeting for 2023 as we discuss the outcome of the referendum and the future of reconciliation in Australia following this result. Full Agenda to come, noting that following the outcome a week of silence has been called for. Our thoughts are with First Nations individuals and communities at this time.

This will be followed by a discussion on the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures recommendations released in September, where great importance was placed on Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities in preserving nature, their land rights and cultural protection.

We will also hear updates from industry, as well as progress reports on our workplan.
