Ashlyn Skeene (Yirrganydji Ranger)

Ashlyn Skeene

Yirrganydji Ranger

My name is Ashlyn Skeene, I’m a 21 year old, Yirrganydji woman from Cairns and I have been in the environment and science industry for almost 4 years now doing what I love. Growing up in Cairns you learn to love the environment, you really have no choice as you are surrounding by the Beaty of both both the land and sea. I think that’s what drove me in the beginning to carrying on in the industry I’m with now. I’m currently doing biodiversity work with Cairns Airport, along with Lucy friend and fellow Yirrganydji family and colleagues. The work we have been doing allows us as traditional owners to have the opportunity to work on country and help make the decision both on ground and administrative. The work we are doing is actively healing the land and as an Aboriginal person, that is one of the biggest things we aspire to do. Heal Country.
