Head of Stewardship at UK's Financial Reporting Council

As Head of Stewardship for the Financial Reporting Council (FRC), Claudia is responsible for the UK Stewardship Code, a world-leading voluntary code which sets expectations for investors when looking after their clients’ and members’ capital. Claudia led the review and update of the Code which took effect on 1 January 2020. She has just completed a secondment with the FCA, working on stewardship policy in the ESG Division and embedding stewardship with the Asset management supervision.

Claudia joined the Financial Reporting Council in 2015 to deliver a report on Corporate culture and the role of boards which led to revisions of the UK Corporate Governance Code.
Prior to that Claudia spent nine years at ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) in business development and policy roles, latterly, leading a campaign to raise corporate governance standards in developing markets and bringing together finance and HR to address inclusion and diversity in organisations.

Claudia grew up in Jamaica, before studying Geography at Cardiff University and is a Chartered Marketer.

Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of slavery at United Nations

Tomoya Obokata is a Japanese scholar of international law and human rights, specialising in transnational organised crime, human trafficking and modern slavery. He was appointed as the Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of slavery, including its causes and consequences in March 2020. He currently serves as Professor of International Human Rights Law at York Law School, and previously taught at Keele University, Queen's University Belfast and Dundee University (all in the United Kingdom Great Britain and Northern Ireland). He has extensive experience of working on the issues of transnational crime, human trafficking and modern slavery with relevant stakeholders, including the UK Parliamentary Joint Committee on Human Rights, the Northern Ireland Assembly All Party Group on Human Trafficking, the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime, the International Organisation for Migration and the European Union. Mr. Obokata also worked as a legal clerk for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Japan. He has published widely on the topics mentioned.

Jane leads the firm’s stewardship activities in Asia Pacific, including researching key corporate governance issues, undertaking direct and collaborative engagement on sustainable themes and working with policymakers on key issues relating to sustainable finance.
Jane is a thought leader on investor practice in climate change, and has over twenty years of experience in financial services and the investment management industry.

Mr. Burthey is an executive vice president in the Newport Beach office, where he leads all portfolio management responsibilities for ESG investing. He also focuses on infrastructure investment opportunities. Prior to rejoining PIMCO in 2019, he served for two years as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy at the U.S. Department of Transportation, where he led several infrastructure policy initiatives, including discretionary grants and federal loans. He originally joined PIMCO in 2012 and was a portfolio manager on the structured credit desk, focusing on commercial real estate, mortgage-backed securities, and corporate debt. Prior to that, he was with HSBC's debt capital markets group. He has 15 years of investment experience and holds an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and a bachelor's degree in economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Mary is the Head of Responsible Investment for Macquarie Asset Management (MAM). Supported by a global team of experienced sustainability professionals, Mary sets and guides implementation of best practice sustainability integration and measurement and communication of MAM’s impact and performance.
Mary joined Macquarie in 2002. Prior to taking on her current role Mary was the Chief Risk and Sustainability Officer for MAM’s private markets businesses, where she oversaw the management of environmental, social and governance risks and opportunities across MAM’s global portfolio of private markets investments as well as operational risk within MAM. Before that, Mary was Chief Financial Officer of the ASX-listed Macquarie Atlas Roads (now Atlas Arteria) and its predecessor Macquarie Infrastructure Group.
Before joining Macquarie, Mary worked in PwC’s financial services audit practice in London and Sydney. Mary holds an MA from Cambridge University and a Master of Finance from INSEAD.

Benson Saulo is a descendant of the Wemba Wemba and Gunditjmara Indigenous nations of Western Victoria, and New Ireland Province in Papua New Guinea. Mr Saulo is the first Indigenous person to be appointed an Australian Consul-General.

Mr Saulo has a background in banking, investments and social impact. As Consul-General and Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner, Mr Saulo is the Americas industry lead for Health, and leads the health team across the US, Mexico and Canada.

Prior to his appointment, Mr Saulo was the Head of Partnerships - Investments at Australian Unity a Wealth and Capital Markets business. Mr Saulo’s focus was exploring private investing into Indigenous businesses to scale their impact through employment, financial empowerment and governance.

In 2011, Benson was appointed the Australian Youth Representative to the United Nations in which he undertook a national engagement tour to gain a deeper understanding of issues impacting Australian youth. Benson then represented Australian youth at the 66th Session of the United Nations General Assembly as an accredited member of Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Mr Saulo became the founding director of the National Indigenous Youth Leadership Academy (NIYLA), which engages young Indigenous Australians to develop and drive youth-led social action campaigns relating to suicide prevention, climate change, mental health and welcoming refugee and asylum seekers. Mr Saulo was selected to participate in the U.S. State Department’s International Leaders Program that enabled him to engage First Nation’s groups to explore leadership, economic development and cultural opportunities.

Mr Saulo’s work across business and community impact has been recognised as a finalist for Young Australian of the Year (VIC), Australian Human Rights Commission Medal for Youth and 2012 NAIDOC Youth of the Year – recognising emerging Indigenous leaders.

During Michael’s tenure, SVA grew to a nationally respected organisation with a high-quality team of more than 50 people. He was also closely involved in the creation of the unique GoodStart non-profit syndicate, now a successful social enterprise with revenue of over $1 billion, which acquired the assets of the failed ABC childcare centres in 2010.
He maintains a balance of primarily social purpose, non-executive involvements including as Executive Director of For Purpose Investment Partners, Chair of the Paul Ramsay Foundation and a Director of MH Carnegie & Co, Hearts & Minds Investments and Australian Philanthropic Services. Sean Gilbert serves as Chief Investor Network Officer, overseeing the GIIN Membership.

Prior to this role, Sean was the Head of Partnerships and Outreach with the NDC Partnership at World Resources Institute (WRI), where he led governance and outreach to launch the global initiative to support countries in achieving ambitious climate and development commitments.

Sean has worked for over twenty years in both the private sector and non-profits on integrating sustainability into business and finance. Prior to his leadership at WRI, he led Sustainability Advisory Services for KPMG in China where he worked with Chinese and Hong Kong companies and banks. Separately, he also co-drafted the Task Force Report for the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED) on Green Finance Reform. He has also played an active role in driving the field of disclosure and sustainability performance standards through his work at the Global Reporting Initiative. As a Director at the Global Reporting Initiative, he led the development of a set of disclosure standards, which have become the most widely used sustainability reporting framework in the world. Sean started his career as a market research consultant for the chemical and environmental technology sectors based in Asia.

Previously, Karen was a Partner at Mercer and Global Head of Infrastructure. Before joining Mercer, Karen was a Partner at Access Capital Advisers and the CEO of Access Economics. Karen has held directorships on several Australian infrastructure company boards.

Before moving to the private sector, Karen held senior economic policy roles in the Australian Treasury and the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.

Karen has a first class honours degree in Economics from the University of Queensland and was awarded an honorary doctorate in Economics by the University in 2017. She is also a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Professor Peter Yu AM is a Yawuru man from Broome in the Kimberley region in Northwest Australia with over 40 years’ experience in Indigenous development and advocacy in the Kimberley, and at the state, national and international levels. He was Executive Director of the Kimberley Land Council, and a member of the national leadership team negotiating the Federal Government's response to the 1992 Mabo High Court judgement. He is currently also Deputy Chair of the Northern Australian Indigenous Land and Sea Management Alliance, Board member of Watertrust Australia Trustee of the Princes Trust Australia, Council Member of JANA Sustainability Advisory and Chair of the Australian Advisory Group to Rio Tinto.

Karen Mundine is from the Bundjalung Nation of northern NSW. As the CEO at Reconciliation Australia, Ms Mundine brings to the role more than 25 years’ experience leading community engagement, public advocacy, communications and social marketing campaigns. An architect of the landmark Australian Reconciliation Barometer, Ms Mundine works with governments, the business sector and civil society to advocate for change and is currently a member of the Australian Government’s Referendum Engagement Group.

Over the course of her career, she has been instrumental in some of Australia’s watershed national events including the Apology to the Stolen Generations, Centenary of Federation commemorations, Corroboree 2000 and the 1997 and 2021 Australian Reconciliation Conventions.

Ms Mundine holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and was the winner of the 2021 Indigenous Australian UTS Alumni Award. She is a Company Director of Gondwana Choirs, Sydney Festival, the Australian Indigenous Leadership Centre (AILC), and Australians for Constitutional Recognition, and is a Member of Chief Executive Women.

Ross Piper is the Chief Executive Superannuation at Australian Ethical, an $8 billion superannuation fund with over 100,000 members across Australia. He has over 25 years of leadership and management experience in corporate and non-profit contexts. Prior to Ross’ appointment with Australian Ethical, he was CEO of Christian Super for 5 years. He also served with World Vision International for several years in the Middle East, Eastern Europe and various countries of the former Yugoslavia.

During his career Ross has held a number of positions in the corporate sector, primarily in investment banking and mining. He was Head of Corporate Risk for Macquarie Bank for several years, and his early professional experience was gained in Indigenous communities and the mining sector, where he worked in the area of training and community development. For six years he served as a Director and Founding Chair of AgroInvest, a large microfinance bank serving rural families in Serbia and Montenegro, and currently sits on various other boards for organisations focused on social enterprise and technology. He is currently Chair of the Responsible Investment Association Australasia (www.responsibleinvestment.org).

Patricia has extensive international experience having lived and worked in seven countries across a wide range of financial services in very senior executive positions. She has expertise in capital markets, risk management, corporate governance, treasury and international affairs.
She is Chair of OFX, Director of Transurban Ltd, Board Member of the Future Fund Board of Guardians, and is an Ambassador for the Australian Indigenous Education Foundation.
Patricia is a former Chair of the Commonwealth Superannuation Corporation, and over the last 25 years she has served on numerous Boards as a Non- Executive director including Aviva plc (UK), Macquarie Group, the National
Australia Bank, Qantas and Wesfarmers. Patricia has held honorary government positions including as a founding member of the Financial Sector Advisory Council and as a member of the Panel of Experts to the Australian Financial Centre Forum.
Patricia was the founding Chair of the 30% Club in Australia, a founding director of the Grattan Institute, and a long-serving director of the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute.
She began her career in the U.S. public service and is an honours graduate of Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service. When she retired from full time executive work in 1996, she was the executive general manager in charge of the NAB’s Wholesale and Institutional Bank.
She was awarded a Centenary Medal for services to the financial services industry, and a lifetime fellowship of the Australian Institute of Company Directors for the advancement of women in corporate Australia.

Sean Carmody is the Executive Director for the Insurance Division of APRA. The division is responsible for the prudential supervision of the insurance industry, including general insurance, life insurance and friendly societies and private health insurance. Sean joined APRA in December 2017 as the Executive General Manager, Risk and Analytics Division.

Sean has over 20 years experience across banking, financial markets and funds management. Prior to joining APRA he was General Manager, Risk Analytics and Insights at Westpac where he had responsibility across risk modelling and reporting, market risk and liquidity risk. He has also held roles at Westpac as Head of Credit Risk, Head of Market Risk and the Head of Credit Portfolio Management in WIB. His previous experience includes working in funds management (Barclays Global Investors) and investment banking (Deutsche Bank) and his qualifications include a PhD in Pure Mathematics from St John's College, Cambridge.

He was the Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia from September 2016 until March 2022, and prior to this was the Assistant Governor (Financial Markets) from 2007-2016. In addition, Guy was Chair of the Australian Council of Financial Regulators Working Group on the regulatory framework for climate finance.

Dr. Debelle has previously held roles at the International Monetary Fund, Bank for International Settlements, and the Australian Treasury. He has also been a visiting Professor in Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).Guy graduated with a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) from the University of Adelaide and gained a Ph.D. in Economics from MIT.

Prior to Ausbil, Måns was the Senior ESG Research Analyst at AMP Capital, following positions at Carnegie Investment Bank, Macquarie Bank and Accenture, having begun his career in 2004. Måns is well known for producing and presenting consistent, high-quality ESG research covering the Australian market, and he has published numerous, highly regarded insight papers on ESG issues. In 2022, Måns was awarded an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for contribution to the responsible investment industry. He received a letter of commendation from Anti-Slavery Australia in 2019. Simpson Visiting Fulbright Professor at the University of Wyoming, researching ‘red state foreign policy.’ His latest book, In the Shadow of the Cold War: American Foreign Policy from George Bush Sr. to Donald Trump (Cambridge, 2020), has been called ‘a cogent, graceful, provocative account’ of its subject. His other books include Turf War: the Clinton Administration and Northern Ireland (Ashgate, 2004) and US Foreign Policy and Democracy Promotion (Routledge, 2013).

His co-authored book, After Bush: the Case for Continuity in American Foreign Policy (Cambridge, 2008), won the Richard Neustadt Book Prize and became a best-selling international security text. He is editor of the two-volume Oxford Encyclopedia of American Military and Diplomatic History (2013). His many op-eds have had over 1 million hits.

Tim worked closely on the Northern Ireland peace process and remains a key interlocutor between U.S. diplomats and the academic community. Twice a Fulbright scholar, he holds a PhD in political science from Boston College, USA.

In 2019, Dave was appointed as a Director of RIAA and sits on RIAA’s Certification Assessment Panel.

Dave is also a member of the Ethical Advisers’ Co-op and participated as a Working Group member of the Australian Sustainable Finance Initiative (ASFI). He holds a BEc (Accounting) and Graduate Diploma Financial Planning.

Fiona Reynolds is an independent director and advisory board member working across the business and investor sectors on ESG and sustainability issues. Fiona served as the CEO of the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) for over nine years, stepping down at the beginning of 2022.

Fiona has 25 years' experience in the financial services, superannuation and pension sector. She joined the PRI from the Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees (AIST), where she spent seven years as CEO.

Fiona was named one of the 20 most influential people in sustainability globally by Barron’s magazine and has twice been named one of Australia’s one hundred women of influence by the Australian Financial Review.

Fiona is the Chair of the UN Global Compact Australia, she also serves on the Board of Frontier Advisors and Client Earth Asia Pacific, the Advisory Boards of Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners, and Affirmative Investment Management. She chairs the ESG Advisory Board for Qualitas is on the think tanks Climate Catalyst, and the Sustainability and Impact Forum. She is also on the ESG advisory board of BASF and PWC.

Prior to launching the NorthStar Impact Fund, Kerry was a co-founder of Perennial Investment Partners in 1999, which grew to $20bn in funds under management within 7 years, and founder of Eight Investment Partners in 2010, which manages small companies’ portfolios.

In 2018, Kerry completed the Impact Measurement programme at Oxford University.

He leads the Sustainable1 ESG Solutions team in the region, where he focuses on the strategic development of S&P Global ESG Solutions, anchored in client-centric technical expertise and deeper strategic relationships. Olivier also works on delivering regionally relevant thought leadership materials, and represents S&P Global Sustainable1 at conferences, webinars and other client events.

Prior to joining S&P Global Sustainable1, Olivier worked over 11 years in the financial industry. His most recent position was Co-Head of the ESG Solutions Team at Natixis Investment Managers Solutions, where he focussed in particular on the development of climate analytical & data capacities. Previously, Olivier worked both for Natixis CIB and Natixis Investment Managers in Solutions advisory roles, based in London and Paris, mainly dedicated to institutional clients. Prior to this, Olivier started his career by working on the funding of water and environmental projects in West and East Africa.
