Animal welfare poses a significant but perhaps overlooked risk to investments across a range of industries. Public exposures of practices that don't meet community expectations can and have resulted in substantive changes to regulation and consumer demand, forcing companies to rethink business models, and in some cases bringing into question the medium to long term viability of entire industries. This session brings together experts who can explain the investment risks and opportunities and why they are occurring, and give attendees insight into the sectors that could be the subject of the next big public outcry.

  • In this session, you will learn about and are invited to participate in a short ~15 min online experiment examining climate-related financial disclosure and the effect on analyst valuation decisions.
  • Professional industry participation is critical to this research that aims to have important policy and practice contributions.

PRESENTERS:

Dr Anna Young-Ferris

University of Sydney Business School

Investment analysis and climate change/sustainability reporting have been the focus of Anna's research and professional career for two decades. Her award-winning PhD case study examined the integration of environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) accounting information in mainstream investment decisions and she continues to focus and publish her research in this field.

 

Dr Shan Zhou

University of Sydney Business School

Shan has gained considerable research experience on non-financial information reporting and assurance. In Shan's PhD thesis, she investigates the capital market benefits of integrated reporting including analysts' forecasts. Shan has successfully produced five quality publications in the area of non-financial reporting and assurance and continues to work on a pipeline of research projects in this area.
